Frequently Asked Questions

Who actually performs the RCx?
The Program has a list of pre-qualified building RCx Providers to perform RCx services.

How long does a typical project take?
Depending on the scope and complexity, a project may last 9-12 months for commercial buildings and 3-6 months for grocery stores from inception to completion.

Who receives the incentive check?
For RCx projects, the Program provides screening services and project follow-up at no cost to the owner. A RCx Provider performs an engineering analysis to identify potential operational improvements and will be paid directly by the Program. The building owner will receive the incentive check for implementation of measure selected with a payback of greater than one year. See Incentives for detailed information regarding incentives paid.

How do I know if my building is a good candidate?
There is a set of criteria that the Program uses to screen a building and determine whether it is a good candidate to participate in the Program. The primary criteria include building size, annual energy consumption, and age and condition of building equipment. See How To Qualify for more information.

What are the requirements to become a RCx Provider?
All RCx Providers must be pre-qualified by the Program. The Program will seek to accommodate existing relationships between a building owner and their service contractor by qualifying their contractors or pairing them with another qualified provider.

"At Marriott, we've found that retrocommissioning saves us time and money. At one property, we expect to save nearly $500,000 annually in energy costs from implementing retrocommissioning measures - and the project will pay for itself in less than one year. We’re using the SCE RCx Program to continue our efforts in this area.”

-E.J. Hilts, Regional Energy Manager for Marriott (Western Region)
